We wrote that Formula 1 invited two companies to participate in the tender for the supply of tires for the 2025-2027 seasons: Pirelli and Bridgestone. The decision will be announced in the coming days, but the German Auto Motor und Sport writes that everything has already been decided: Pirelli will stay and Bridgestone will become the official tire supplier from 2028.
According to rumors, Bridgestone greatly raised the bar during commercial negotiations, so that Pirelli had to significantly increase payments to Formula 1 and reduce the financial burden on the teams, but they are not yet ready to work in such conditions for a long time – and it can transfer the contract to Bridgestone after the end of the current agreement.
“The Formula 1 bosses have rejected Bridgestone’s offer. An official announcement should be made a week after the Qatar Grand Prix. According to rumors, Pirelli will have to pay another 20 million dollars to Formula 1, and the teams will pay half: 750 thousand instead of 1.5 million per year. To free up money for Formula 1, Pirelli withdrew from the World Rally Championship. There are rumors that Pirelli wants to terminate the contract afterwards – and transfer Formula 1 to Bridgestone,” writes the German publication.
