Vasser: What could the emergence of a new team bring?

Frederic Vasseur, the head of the Ferrari team, called for a calculation of the consequences that the appearance of a new team in the championship could entail if Andretti Cadillac gets the green light.

The application submitted by Andretti was approved at FIA level, but a discussion on the commercial component of the American project is still pending, and this is already within the remit of Formula One Management (FOM). At the same time, the majority of traditional championship teams are not willing to support this, because they are not at all happy with the prospect of dividing the prize money into eleven parts, and not into ten parts, as is done now.

“It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of this,” Vasseur told RacingNews365. – When we signed the Agreement of Agreement last time, we opened the door for the 11th team, there was a good reason for that. At that moment Honda decided to leave Formula 1 and everything was on the brink.

In fact, only the participation of the Mercedes and Ferrari teams in the championship was confirmed for the future. And then we opened the door for the eleventh team – if it could give Formula 1 something important, and at that time it was mainly about engines.

All the championship teams put in a tremendous effort. We shouldn’t forget that three or four years ago almost half the starting field was close to bankruptcy. So it’s important to remember that everything in life is cyclical and we don’t know what might happen between now and 2030. I believe that we can put Formula 1 in a difficult position unless, as I said, the emergence of a new entrant can significantly increase the value of Formula 1.

I don’t have access to the Andretti file, but I think the first question should be: “How can this increase the value of the championship’s assets?” We already have an American team, this is Haas, and an American driver participates in Formula 1. That is why I am most interested in what the championship can bring?..”
