The outcome of the tender was announced yesterday, meaning Pirelli remained the exclusive supplier of tires for Formula 1 until 2027. Another participant in the tender was the Japanese Bridgestone, which supplied tires to the championship teams from 1997 to 2010.
Following the announcement of the tender results, Bridgestone released an official statement confirming their intention to return to Formula 1 following the expiry of the contract with Pirelli.
“In 2023, Bridgestone will celebrate 60 years of presence in motorsport,” the Japanese tire maker said in a statement. “The company continues to support strong global premium racing series.
Formula 1 is the most prestigious global racing platform and Bridgestone continues to view its presence in the series as part of its racing strategy.
The company is in genuine and ongoing communication with the FIA and Formula One Group regarding the tender for the next supply period of Formula 1 tires and is committed to offering cutting-edge innovative technologies and sustainability initiatives.”
