Two issues affected the Qatar Grand Prix: a limit on the length of the segment due to damaged tires and constant fines for violating the circuit’s boundaries. Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur believes that something should be done about the fines.
Frederic Vasseur: “The tire situation was also unpleasant, but for me the biggest problem of the weekend was maintaining the boundaries of the circuit.
When you go to Spielberg you know you’re going to have problems with the limits of the track, and there were. Two hours after the race we finally got the results. Before this weekend we told them the same thing: “It’s going to be fun,” and it was fun.
Many riders lost a bit of concentration at the end. Some of the guys from the last ten laps went off the track every lap. You can’t blame them for this, you just have to find a solution.
It’s not good for the show. On the pit wall we see the number of violations and understand what is happening. but I think of those sitting in front of the TV. They do not have this information, at one point they see that Gasly has been fined for five seconds, then another five seconds and then another five. We have to think about what we can do about it.”
