The day before, Ferrari Academy member Oliver Berman made his debut behind the wheel of Formula 1, completing a test day behind the wheel of a Ferrari SF21 during testing in Fiorano. The races were part of Oliver’s preparation for Friday’s training sessions in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi with Haas.
The British driver drove 400 kilometers, after which he shared his impressions of his first day behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car.
Oliver Berman: “If you think I wasn’t excited, you’re wrong. The night before the tests I couldn’t sleep. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this day. My parents were also at the test and I was told that my mother was very excited when I left the Ferrari pits.
The engineers guided me step by step during the first laps and as I gained confidence in the car I started to enjoy it.
I was prepared for the enormous power, having previously driven a Formula 1 car in a simulator. However, I was positively surprised by the grip the tires had on the track. It’s hard to understand in the simulator, but the grip is enormous compared to Formula 2, where I race now.
Another surprise was the level of downforce; it’s just incredible. Thanks to the team who immediately made me feel part of it, and thanks to everyone at Ferrari who organized this unforgettable day.”
