We recently wrote about the extension of the contract for the Belgian Grand Prix in response to the Belgian press. Today it has been officially confirmed: the race in Spa will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until 2025. Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali separately emphasized that the contract extension was made possible thanks to the support of the podium by the Walloon government.
Stefano Domenicali: “The Spa circuit is synonymous with Formula 1, as it was there in the very first season and is very popular with fans and drivers. I am pleased to confirm that we have extended the contract until 2025.
In recent years, the event’s promoter has done a lot to improve the infrastructure and experience fans get at the track. All stakeholders continue to work towards the common goal of providing safe and exciting racing.
I would like to thank the promoter and the Walloon government for their continued support.”
Willy Borsus, Vice President and Minister of Economy of Wallonia: “We are proud and happy to announce that Formula 1 will remain in Wallonia until 2025. Our region will once again appear on the international stage thanks to popular events and legendary sports infrastructure.
In addition to prestige, I would like to emphasize the significant economic impact for Wallonia and Belgium of organizing a Formula 1 event. According to a study conducted in 2021, the region received a further 41.8 million euros after deducting government funding, which has been consistently decreasing. The forecasts promise even more positive results this year.
The Formula 1 stage is therefore not only a fantastic racing event, but also an engine of economic growth for our region.”
