WEC: Grosjean drives a Lamborghini hypercar for the first time

The Lamborghini factory team continues to prepare for its debut in the top category of endurance racing and has successfully completed another three-day test of the SC63 LMDh hypercar.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse teamed up with the Italian Iron Lynx team at the circuit in Almeria, in southeastern Spain, where factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean completed almost 2,000km. By the way, Grosjean tested this sports prototype for the first time.

On the 4.2 km circuit, Lamborghini pilots and engineers tested the reliability of the car’s systems and also worked out the interaction between all divisions of the team.

“These three days have been very busy, but I am very happy to have worked with the team and driven this car on a real track for the first time,” said Roman. – The SC63 makes a great impression from the very first laps and I want to get behind the wheel again as soon as possible in the next tests to cover as many kilometers as possible.

Everything went quite successfully and I am happy that I worked with the whole team, got to know everyone and was convinced that a huge amount of preparatory work was carried out, even if it was hidden from prying eyes.

There is still a long way to go, but a lot has been done before I arrived and I am looking forward to getting to know this car further.”

The testing program will continue next week, after which the team will travel to the United States, where the SC63 will be homologated ahead of the car’s debut in the US IMSA Championship. Once this important formal procedure is completed, testing of the hypercar will begin on North American circuits.

The official debut of the Lamborghini SC63 is scheduled for March 2 next year – on this day the “1812 km Qatar” race starts, but in the last weekend of February it will be preceded by the so-called “Prologue” to the World Championship.
