This is not the first year that Valtteri Bottas has taken part in the traditional BWR series cycling race, which takes place in mid-October on the unpaved roads of the US state of Kansas.
It coincides with his preparation schedule for the US Grand Prix, which suits Valtteri perfectly, so yesterday he got back on the bike and headed to the start of the 132 kilometer race. Nearly 90% of the route was through rugged terrain in the vicinity of the town of Lawrence, sometimes ascending to small hills up to 4,000 feet above sea level.
Last year Bottas won this race in his age category, but this time he did not disappoint.
“It was 132 kilometers, difficult because of the wind and the road surface, but the course is fun and together with Tiffany Cromwell we had a great day and finished this race. I placed 2nd overall and 1st in my age group, and Tiffany won the women’s category!
Thank you to everyone at Lawrence for your support, and thank you to Tiffany who pulled me along all the way,” the Finnish Alfa Romeo driver responded on social media.
Tiffany Cromwell is the girlfriend of Valtteri, a professional Australian cyclist, and it has become a tradition for her to place higher than him in cycling races. Presumably, she is distinguished by special endurance and preparation, so Bottas, who himself is in excellent physical condition, always emphasizes that on the cyclocross track she sets the pace.
