After the race in Monaco, Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen criticized Red Bull Racing in a column for the strategy the team had chosen for his son. The words of Verstappen Sr. did not please the team management – Helmut Marko confirmed that he had an enlightening conversation with Jos about the inadmissibility of public criticism of Red Bull Racing.
“Jos is great and it is thanks to his qualities that Max has achieved so much,” says Helmut Marko in an interview with De Limburger. – When Max first entered Formula 1, it was not easy for us to work with Jos. He had his own opinion on every subject. Even now, however, nothing has changed.
Yos’ recent useless comments have sparked discontent within the team and have given journalists a reason to publish. I immediately called him and asked: “Jos, what is it?” Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, including Jos, but he is not allowed to publish it on his son’s website!
He answered me, “Yes, but I am the father.” A logical explanation, but I told him not to do that again. Yos is in any case Yos. Sometimes he can get angry very quickly and there is no way to change him.”
