Nico Hulkenberg: The results are not what we had hoped for

In an interview with the Haas press office, team driver Nico Hulkenberg said what he expects from the upcoming US Grand Prix in Austin and summarized the preliminary results of his performances for the team this season.

Q: This is your first time competing on the COTA circuit as part of an American team. What do you expect from the stage?
Nico Hulkenberg: I have competed on the circuit since its first appearance on the calendar, and I can say that this stage is very different from any other. In Miami I already had the experience of running a home race for the American team – it was a busy week and now I’m waiting for something similar.

It is a fairly unique situation for Formula 1 when most team partners come from the same country. This stage is also unique thanks to the fans – they are full of enthusiasm, many became interested in Formula 1 after watching the Drive to Survive series. I’m looking forward to meeting many Haas fans and hope to see many Günther Steiner shirts!

Q: What do you expect from the new products the team has prepared for the stage in Austin?
Nico Hulkenberg: These are long-awaited new products aimed at eliminating the weaknesses of our car that are causing us problems on Sundays. The updates should reduce tire wear, improve stability and increase speed.

Kevin and I have been providing feedback to the engineers after every session since the start of the season. I hope that the new products will allow us to make significant improvements and help us choose the direction of development for the next year.

Question: How do you evaluate your first year at Haas and what do you expect from next season?
Nico Hulkenberg: Obviously the results on the track were not what we had hoped for. It’s great that we were able to get the most out of the car on Saturday, but points are awarded based on the results of the race and on Sunday we had no fun at all.

In any case, I have enjoyed working with the team and building relationships with the technicians and engineers, getting to know those who work on the base with complete dedication. The new products we will bring to Austin are indicative of the team’s ambitions, and I look forward to both the upcoming races and the next season.
