Oscar Piastri: There will be little time for rest

The three upcoming races in the US, Mexico and Brazil will take place on circuits where Oscar Piastri has not yet raced, but has intensively prepared for it by training on a simulator at the McLaren Technology Center (MTC).

After these three Grand Prix in a row, separated by one-week breaks, there will be a short break, after which the first race will be held in Las Vegas in mid-November and the season finale in Abu Dhabi a week later. The schedule is extremely tight and it was necessary to prepare well for the last part of the championship.

“Before a series of three stages in Austin, Mexico City and Brazil, I spent a few days at the team base and trained on the simulator,” Oscar said in an interview with Speedcafe. “After that was the last real chance to take a few days off. for training or base work will only appear after our return from Brazil, and the rest of the time will be taken up by racing.

Because there will be so many races and so much travel involved, it is important to take a breather in between to rest and recuperate in some way, although there will be little time for that.

The period leading up to the season finale in Abu Dhabi will not be easy, but over the course of the season it has already happened that races have been held back to back, so there is nothing new for us here, and I think we are all here accustomed to and know how to deal with such burdens.”

However, this season there were still no three races in a row. The planned series of Grands Prix of Emilia-Romagna, Monaco and Spain was reduced to two rounds when natural disasters in Italy forced the cancellation of the race in Imola. But on the 2024 calendar, consisting of 24 stages, there will already be three such series, and in four cases the races will take place two in a row.
