Williams will continue to refine the FW45 until the end of the season

In the final round in Qatar, the Williams team achieved two points thanks to Alex Albon’s seventh place in the sprint. The American Grand Prix in Austin will also be held in a sprint format and the British team will hope that two races will increase their chances of gaining points this weekend.

Dave Robson, Chief Race Engineer: “The COTA circuit has an interesting combination of different types of corners, elevation changes and straights of different lengths. Moreover, the parts of the track where the asphalt was renewed at the beginning of 2022 are no longer new, which means we see several new bumps in the first training.

Apparently we have good weather all weekend: high temperatures and moderate wind. The first practice, pre-sprint qualifying and Sunday’s race will take place during the warmest hours, while qualifying and the sprint will take place in the early evening.

Pirelli will bring medium tires to the podium. One of the challenges this weekend will be to understand how the tires behave on the track as tarmac conditions improve and temperatures change.

In recent months we have taken a good position in the championship, but the competition is very tight and all the teams around us are able to earn points. We will continue to work hard to strengthen our position in the coming races, so we plan to improve the FW45 until the end of the season.”

Alex Albon: “I’m really excited to be back in Austin. This is one of the best stages of the season in terms of the atmosphere on the track created by the fans. It feels like another home race for the team and Logan will be happy to be back home.

Another sprint weekend is just around the corner, so it’s important to show good speed from the start of the weekend, with only one training session available. Anyway, I’m interested in racing at this track because it’s fun and fluid.”

Logan Sargent: “I’m excited to be back on the track this weekend and in front of my fans. Austin is one of my favorite cities in the world. The COTA circuit is a special place because it is where I was officially announced as a driver for the Williams youth program in 2021 and made my debut in the first practice last year. The performance during the race will be special.

During a sprint weekend, the fact that I already know the track will help me. I hope we will have a successful race and give the fans a good show.”
