Rain qualifying at Silverstone gave Carlos Sainz the first pole of his career – in his 150th Grand Prix…
Carlos Sainz: “I’m beside myself with happiness! It’s unbelievable to win first pole at Silverstone, and even on a wet track. I will remember this day forever!
Qualifying turned out to be difficult, the conditions were constantly changing – in each lap I had to look for areas with better grip, but in the last attempt I managed to put in a good lap, which was enough for pole position.
Before the race I am very confident and I hope we can repeat Friday’s pace tomorrow. I’m looking forward to an interesting battle with our main rivals, I’m sure I can fight for the win. I look forward.”
Charles Leclerc (3rd): “Unfortunately, the corner on the last lap of the qualifying final didn’t allow me to get the result I was aiming for. I am disappointed with my result, but very happy with Carlos’ pole position.
I was comfortable in the car, we were fast in all conditions. Considering that we have experienced serious difficulties with such weather over the past two years, such competitiveness speaks of the team’s progress.
Tomorrow each team will choose its strategy. Someone chooses one pit stop, someone – two. I hope the option we chose will give Ferrari the winning double.”
