Formula E: The race will be held in Shanghai for the first time in 2024

The FIA World Motorsport Council today confirmed the 2024 Formula E calendar, including Shanghai for the first time.

A provisional version of the calendar was published in the summer and there were a number of unoccupied dates as negotiations with the promoters continued, but now all eleven rounds have been confirmed, with sixteen races remaining – with Saudi Arabia, Italy, Germany, China and Britain has double legs.

But unlike last season, the stage in Cape Town will not take place next year, although it was once announced that Formula E had signed a five-year contract to hold races in South Africa. Also excluded from the calendar is the June leg in Jakarta, but this decision is explained by the fact that preparations for the upcoming presidential elections will take place at this time in Indonesia, which will inevitably be fraught with various kinds of complications.

However, it has already been announced that the organizers of the Electric Car Racing World Championship are, together with the Indonesian authorities, looking for an opportunity to move the stage to another date.

The double round in Shanghai is scheduled for the last weekend of May next year and will be held on the same circuit where the Chinese Grand Prix takes place.

Another change in the calendar compared to the design is related to the Italian stage. Chances are it will take place on a different route, maybe not in Rome, but somewhere else. The reason is that the narrow street ring in the Italian capital is not well suited for the new generation of Formula E cars.

This became clear last season, but the Italian market is very important for the organizers of the electric series and therefore various options are being explored, including the possibility of holding races on one of the stationary circuits. The new location for April’s doubleheader is expected to be announced before the end of the year.

Alberto Longoco-founder and CEO of Formula 1: “Compared to previous championships, the tenth season calendar is without a doubt the most interesting for drivers, teams and fans around the world.

We are bringing Formula E to Shanghai for the first time and are also returning to India thanks to the support of the Telangana state government. The combination of racing on urban circuits, which is particularly in line with the character of Formula E, with laps on well-known circuits, will enable drivers to benefit even more from the possibilities of the new generation of cars.”
