Five races before the end of the season, Fernando Alonso is eleven points behind Lewis Hamilton in the battle for third place in the individual classification. The Aston Martin driver arrived in Austin in good spirits and is looking forward to a productive weekend.
Fernando Alonso: “I like the circuit, the combination of fast corners in the first sector and slow corners in the second and third sectors. There are plenty of overtaking opportunities in Austin – in Turn 12, but also in the unique Turn 1, which is located on a hill and has a very wide entrance. This makes it possible to choose from different routes.
There is a sprint on Saturday and the main race on Sunday, giving plenty of opportunity to put on a great show for the fans. This is good.
We had problems in the last races, but we must not forget the positions we started from. We now have 197 points more than last year. Just an incredible number! We have to end the season on a high. There are still five races ahead in which we want to earn as many points as possible.
The team brought several new products to this stage. We will only have one training session on Friday to find the optimal settings, but we will do our best.”
