Oscar Piastri: We are already able to fight for victory

Oscar Piastri climbed to the podium two races in a row – in Japan and Qatar, and in the previous stage he also became the winner of the sprint. Naturally, the Australian McLaren driver is happy with these results, but he is not inclined to overestimate them.

Oscar Piastri: “To be able to show good results every weekend, it is necessary that all races take place on circuits with characteristics comparable to those of the Japanese and Qatar Grand Prix. I think the next five races will be more difficult for us because, to be honest, Suzuka and Losail were just perfect for our car.
Still, I believe we are capable of fighting with Ferrari and Mercedes for places in the top five, although Red Bull is still one step ahead. Of course it was a lot of fun to win the sprint in Qatar, but I cannot say with certainty that I will now be able to work as I should on all days of the weekend. But even if I had finished behind Max Verstappen then, I would still have been satisfied.

And yet we already know that if everything is done correctly, if the conditions are right, and if the race takes place on a track that suits the McLaren car, we can fight for victory through our own speed. I am happy that this applies to both my work and the entire team. Of course winning the sprint gave me confidence, but I would much rather win the Grand Prix.
It is clear that at this stage of the season everyone has already started preparing for next year, including us, but everyone in the team has gained optimism and confidence in themselves and we hope that our business will go even better in the future. ”
