In Austin, Daniel Ricciardo returned to the wheel, but lost to his AlphaTauri teammate in qualifying…
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “I’m happy with my performance, but I’m angry that I didn’t reach the final and lost quite a bit. But with several strong teams reaching the qualifying finals, we feel like we got the most out of our car.
Eleventh is a good position to start Sunday’s race, the top ten is very close, so I’m looking forward to that day. Our race pace in the first practice looked good, so there are opportunities on both Saturday and Sunday.
I’m glad Daniel is back. It’s not easy to jump straight into qualifying after just one practice session. He didn’t have time to get up to speed, but he did a good job and gave great feedback, which helped me finish 11th.”
Daniel Ricciardo (15th): “It’s nice to be behind the wheel again. There were no problems with my hand, but I had to feel the car and decide on the settings.
We only had one training; it is difficult to prepare a car for qualifying in an hour. We had some problems at the beginning of the session and when the track got faster we fell back. Let’s see what happens tomorrow. I didn’t want to start fifteenth, but I’m happy to be back behind the wheel. Regardless of the outcome, it was a fun day.”
