Haas F1 brought a heavily modified car to Austin, but so far this has had virtually no effect on the results: Nico Hulkenberg dropped out of contention in the first part of qualifying, and Kevin Magnussen in the second part.
Kevin Magnussen (14th): “The new products left a positive feeling, but it is clear that we have not yet exploited their full potential. It will be interesting to see how they will perform in Saturday’s sprint.
More questions arise around Sunday’s race, whether we can be more careful with the tires during the course. I don’t think we can count on more speed on a fast lap today, but we’ll see how everything goes in the race.”
Nico Hulkenberg (16th): “The second attempt was unsuccessful, although the track condition had improved. The Red Bull drivers interfered with me, I lost a lot of time and couldn’t improve.
Today we tested for the first time the new products prepared by the team; based on the results of a one hour training and qualification we need to understand its effectiveness. In the morning I was not happy with the car, then we adjusted the settings and it got better. It’s a shame we couldn’t achieve better results.”
