We once talked about how Netflix was planning to make a series about the life and career of Ayrton Senna, and his compatriot Gabriel Leone was assigned to play the role of the great Brazilian racer.
Yesterday, Netflix’s press office shared information that the series had already started filming this week in Brazil, and the cast was fully formed.
Filming takes place in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but some scenes were also filmed in Argentina and Uruguay, before the crew moved to Britain, where the young Senna moved to continue his career in the early 1980s.
The production company Gullane is responsible for making the six-episode series, but the racer’s family and his company Senna Brands are also involved in the project.
Martin Brundle, one of Senna’s main rivals in the youth formulas, is played by British actor Charlie Hamblett – film fans could see him in episodic roles in series such as Killing Eve and Secret Agent.
The premiere of the miniseries “Senna” is scheduled for 2024.
