The entire Williams team failed to pass the first part of qualifying for the American Grand Prix – Alex Albon set the 18th fastest time, Logan Sargent – 20th. Both drivers noted that the car’s behavior on track had deteriorated compared to training.
Alex Albon (18th): “During qualifying, the car’s behavior was very different than during practice – it became destabilized under gusts of wind. The result was that it was difficult to drive a clear lap and the first attempt was also not good enough.
The car was faster in practice than in the first part of qualifying, which is a bit disappointing.”
Logan Sargent (20th): “It’s a shame today wasn’t the best day, but it was great to ride on my home circuit.
Qualifying turned out to be very difficult. The behavior of the car has completely changed compared to the training, which is strange. We’ll look at the telemetry and see what we can do better on Saturday.”
