Carlos Sainz: I’ve managed to improve lately

After winning pole at Silverstone, Carlos Sainz said such a result was made possible in part by the fact that he feels more confident behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

“In the second practice at Silverstone I realized that the car suits me,” said Carlos after qualifying. – I felt confident compared to what it was, for example in the second practice on the podium in Barcelona. Now I am more satisfied with the car and my steering.

The third workout turned out to be difficult – we took a step back. We know what it is, but we don’t know if we could completely fix the problem before the race, but there were no problems on the wet track, so qualifying was all about getting the tires to work, and then they worked, I felt comfortable. Let’s see how we will race the pace, but I want to believe I’ve been able to add to it lately.

Commenting on the first pole of his career, Sainz specifically emphasized that he was happy to be ahead of rivals like Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen on a wet track: “It’s always nice to win pole in the rain. I have always been competitive on wet roads, but my fellow drivers are also good in wet conditions.

There are 20 drivers in Formula 1 and all 20 were among the best on the wet track in the categories in which they race before Formula 1. That’s why it’s so much harder to succeed in Formula 1 on a wet surface.

In other series it was easy for me to take pole in the rain by half a second, simply because the level of the drivers was not as high as in Formula 1. And when you go into Formula 1, you think you the best in the rain, but then you find out that your opponents – Max, Charles, Lewis, especially Lewis, are also very, very good in the rain, and it’s incredibly hard to win even tenth against them.
