Max Verstappen took another victory – this time in Saturday’s sprint at the Texas circuit in Austin. But at the same time he started from pole, and Sunday’s Grand Prix starts from sixth position, and vowed to still try to win.
Max Verstappen: “There was quite a tight situation in the first corner (with Charles Leclerc), but fortunately there is quite a lot of space there and that helped. Then we could set the pace of the race, and at the end I had some fun because I attacked a bit more.
My lead over Lewis Hamilton in the opening laps was within 0.8-0.9 seconds, but I was always able to keep it under control in the braking zones. For this circuit the wings of the cars are set in such a way that the effect of the DRS is very powerful, but as soon as I widened the gap and it went beyond a second, we all found our rhythm. But I think our car was capable of excellent pace.
But in tomorrow’s race I will start from 6th position, so the picture will be slightly different than today. But it will be interesting and I hope we can have fun overtaking our rivals. Of course we want to win the American Grand Prix.”
