Albon: There is no denying that we had a good sprint

On Saturday, Williams still had hope that they could compete for points in the sprint, but Alex Albon fell just short of the top eight, so he does not hide his disappointment.

Alex Albon (9th): “I’m angry. You always have to get angry when you don’t have enough to earn points. We were preparing specifically for the sprint and fitted new tires, although most of our competitors preferred to save good tires for the race on Sunday.

We tried to be more aggressive because that was our best chance to score points. This was the right decision because based on the results of qualifying for Friday’s Grand Prix we are starting from distant positions, so it is all the more disappointing: we were close to the top eight but earned nothing. However, we had a good race and there is no denying that.

The tires behave interestingly on this track and if I had the chance to repeat today’s sprint I would act slightly differently. As the race progressed the tires started to deteriorate but closer to the finish the pace was restored allowing us to improve and we tried to close the gap.

Overall our pace is good, so even if we start from 18th position we can hope that on Sunday we can fight with the cars that will be around us.”

Logan Sargent (19th): “When starting from the last position, difficulties were guaranteed. The car does not behave well both at high speeds and on slow parts of the track, and this causes certain problems. When I had to improve to stay ahead of my opponent, I didn’t have enough speed.

But I’m still trying to find a way to make even small improvements. The main lesson from the sprint was that over long series of laps I got a sense of how the car works, which made it clearer which way to go. Let’s see if we can do something on Sunday to fight for higher positions.”
