Max Verstappen set the fastest time in qualifying prior to Saturday’s sprint and will start from first position in the short race of the American weekend.
Max Verstappen: “Throughout qualifying we were quite competitive and although the last lap wasn’t great, we are still on pole, which means our car is performing well.
An exciting sprint awaits us today. As you can see, the cars of different teams are very close in speed, so it is difficult to predict how events will develop during the short race on Saturday.
Normally everything goes well for us on the race distance, but we must nevertheless remember that on this route we always have to overcome some difficulties.
The key factor in the sprint distance will, as always, be proper tire management. All those fast bends wear them out very intensively here, and you also have to overcome slow bends, where you need the drive wheels at the exit to ensure good grip while accelerating. Overall, I expect it won’t be easy. It is impossible to drive all 19 laps at full throttle.”
