Lando Norris: The result is higher than we expected

Lando Norris finished third in Austin and made the podium for the fourth race in a row. The McLaren driver was pleased with the result, but admitted that the car’s speed was not enough to fight for the win.

His partner Oscar Piastri did not reach the finish. He collided with Esteban Ocon on the first lap and the Australian was forced to retire a few laps later due to a leak from a damaged radiator.

Lando Norris (3rd): “When I led the race I had everything under control, but this was not enough to win. But I’m happy: a good race. We knew our weaknesses and knew it would be difficult because of the degradation of the rubber. I had a good pace in the opening laps of each stint, but I couldn’t keep it up long enough.

The most important thing is that we make progress every weekend and get closer to the goal. But there are still a few steps to be taken.

I tried to stop Lewis but it didn’t work because at the end of the race the tires had already lost their effectiveness. You could see for yourself how quickly he closed the gap, and I had to watch my pace.

Perhaps cooler weather would have suited us better, but it was hot. However, I am happy that the team did an excellent job. Finishing on the podium is a better result than we expected before the start of the weekend.”
