Haas F1 brought a seriously updated car to Austin, but this had virtually no effect on the results…
Nico Hulkenberg (13th): “We changed a lot and in the race the car behaved better than the day before, but we had to pay for that by starting from the pit lane.
I think if we had performed better in qualifying we could have qualified for points in the race. There are some positive signs, but it was difficult to work with the tires. However, this applies to everyone.”
Kevin Magnussen (16th): “Thanks to the new products we added downforce, the car behaved better in the race, but this is still not enough. The car didn’t have enough speed, so I ended up in the same position where I started from the pit lane. We still have to find the optimal settings for the new car.”
Gunther Steiner, team manager: “It was a difficult race, but the decision to change the settings and start from the pit lane was fully justified. We have collected a lot of information about the updated car, we will study it – and use this experience next week in Mexico City.
This is not to say that the new products have enabled us to achieve a breakthrough, but some of Kevin and Nico’s comments are encouraging. I hope we get more out of this car in Mexico.”
