Max Verstappen won the US Grand Prix, achieving his 50th victory in Formula 1, and he makes no secret of the fact that he is very proud of that. His teammate, Sergio Perez, finished fifth and complained that the car lacked stability.
Max Verstappen (1st): “Today was more difficult than usual because it all started when I started from sixth position. After that I think I had serious problems with the brakes the whole race. There are a lot of braking points on this track and I just couldn’t get the braking feeling I had yesterday.
All this made my task more difficult and you could see that in the end my lead was very small. Moreover, we had to stay ahead of the laps and the tires were already starting to wear out – this obviously caused additional problems.
In Austin I achieved my 50th victory in Formula 1, and that fact in itself is incredible – I am of course very proud of that! This means we have to continue in the same vein and try to win even more races!”
Sergio Perez (5th): “Of course I would like to grow to higher positions. At times we showed really good pace, but it felt like we simply had no stability. That said, we already know what we did wrong this weekend, so we are quite optimistic for the next races. We hope we can make improvements.
Now the progress was not noticeable, partly because we didn’t quite take the right direction when working with the settings, and because a sprint was planned for this weekend. But as we prepare for the stage in Mexico, and for me this is the most important race, we already know how to act.”
