Today in Valencia, Spain, the official Formula E tests started at the Ricardo Tormo circuit. Over three days, spread over six sessions, 11 teams from the Electric Racing World Championship will be able to complete 5 to 6,000 laps.
According to Phil Charles, technical director of the Jaguar factory team led by Mitch Evans and his new teammate, vice world champion Nick Cassidy, the tests provide an ideal opportunity to monitor the results of the off-season work. , and new Formula E drivers or drivers who have changed teams. During these three days they will try to adapt to unfamiliar cars.
Phil Charles: “The test week in Valencia is running according to a very tight schedule. We arrive at the track having thoroughly checked the cars beforehand, but work continues to prepare and tune them. We are receiving a number of items in the latest specification and we need to ensure that everything is ready on time, that the machine is fully assembled and that we can get started.
Some tasks are completed at the team base before we go to Valencia, but some things are already completed on track. All teams are busy assembling cars and during testing the equipment must already fully meet all requirements.
Then the two team cars take to the track for the first time and our technical specialists have to monitor the work of both, where it is important to ensure a coordinated interaction between the two teams and the exchange of information between them.
It will take some time before all teams find the settings that are suitable for the Valencia circuit. You will then have to deal with many different types of work and processes that occur during the races. In a few months we will see the first phase of the new season in Mexico City, so we have to make sure that all systems are working.
So it’s a very interesting week as we bring everything together, try to improve the speed of the car and also compare our team with everyone else in the championship.”
In addition to Evans and Cassidy, a new driver will get behind the wheel of a Jaguar car on Tuesday: South African Sheldon van der Linde, last year’s DTM champion.
