Lando Norris scored points for McLaren at Silverstone, while Daniel Ricciardo finished just 13th…
Lando Norris (6th): “First of all, I’m glad Zhou, Alex and George were not injured. It is always annoying to see such accidents, it is nice that the safety measures have worked well.
We had a good race. I was hoping to finish fifth, but lost my position at the last pit stop behind the safety car. We probably made a pit stop too late, which prevented us from reaching more, although the car had a good pace. I’m not really upset, we have some important points, but it’s a shame I didn’t finish higher.
British fans have been amazing in the rain and the sun this weekend. At the second restart I saw the crowd supporting me in the stands – it was great! I’m already looking forward to next year.”
Daniel Riccardo (13th): “First of all, I’m happy to hear that after the incident in the first lap everything is okay. Talking about my race, the car didn’t have the same level of grip as the others. I felt like the tires weren’t holding the track when I was trying to maintain speed. This is strange, we need to understand the reasons.
Then there were problems with DRS – after 31 laps I couldn’t open the wing, which is also unpleasant. It is clear that without DRS it is difficult to overtake, but today we were not fast enough. I drove alone.”
Andreas Seidli, team leader: “The most important thing is that all the drivers involved in today’s accidents in F2 and F1 are perfectly fine. The FIA and championship management are working hard to raise safety standards and today we have seen why this is so important.
For us the positive thing is that our car was more competitive this weekend and after two difficult races we have again earned points. Lando showed good speed, but unfortunately after the last pit stop, when the safety car was on track, he lost position to Fernando Alonso.
Things didn’t go according to plan for Daniel this weekend and in the coming days we will analyze in detail the reasons for what happened. Neither yesterday nor today he had a chance to show good results at the circle, moreover DRS had a breakdown on his car, forcing him to make an extra pit stop and he was unable to use this system for the entire second half of the distance.
In general there were positive moments on the one hand, on the other hand we still have a lot to figure out in the days before the Austrian Grand Prix. I want to thank all the team that works on the track and in the base in Woking, as well as the Mercedes mechanics for all the effort they have put in this week.
I want to thank the organizers of the race at Silverstone and the fans who created this special atmosphere.”
