Vettel: It’s nice to earn points on your birthday

Sebastian Vettel celebrated his 35th birthday with two points earned for ninth place in the British Grand Prix. His Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll finished 11th.

Sebastian Vettel (9th): “It’s nice to earn points on my birthday and in the team’s home race, especially given my starting position. Overall, I think we had a good race and we were able to bounce back.

The first red flag start was very chaotic. I started well and finished next to Alex Albon. Then I was pinned down and there was a chain reaction to the incident ahead of us. I slammed on the brakes hard, but couldn’t avoid contact with Alex’s car. The most important thing is that everyone involved in the incident is okay.”

Lance Walk (11th): “I think we had a fairly successful race. The pace was better than yesterday, but it’s a shame we didn’t get a few points.

We continue to deal with the features of new products, but based on today’s race I can say that we have potential in the coming stages.

I’m happy that Guanyu Zhou and Alex Albon are doing well after the accident at the start.”

Mike Krak, team leader: “Today the most important thing is that Zhou and Alex are okay after the incident at the start. This just goes to show how safe the FIA has made our sport.

If the team were told after qualifying that we would earn two points, we would be happy. However, Sebastian and Lance’s race was not perfect, so the details are yet to be analysed.

The next stage will be in Austria on a circuit whose characteristics should suit our car better than Silverstone, and we ourselves should work better.
