Williams is preparing for the race weekend in the Mexican capital and does not rule out that the special features of the Rodriguez Brothers Autodrome circuit will not optimally suit the FW45.
Dave Robson, chief racing engineer: “A distinctive feature of the Mexico City circuit is that it is located at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level, which ensures low air pressure. Low pressure means that despite the large rear wing there will be less drag and downforce.
Also, under these conditions it is more difficult to achieve effective cooling of the power plant and brakes, and the turbine must be able to withstand very heavy loads to ensure the correct operation of the combustion engine.
The length of the Rodriguez Brothers Autodrome circuit is 4.3 km, there are three DRS zones, there is a high-speed section and three sections where speeds are lower. The final combination of turns takes place around a baseball stadium before the cars reach the main straight. They must be able to handle corners well at low speeds, but still remain stable in the fast section.
In October, winds and temperatures in Mexico City are fairly stable and predictable, and you can expect favorable weather conditions to persist on all days. But there is a chance of rain at the start of the weekend and that could have consequences for the work on the track.
Because the program of the Mexican stage is standard, we have the opportunity to carry out certain tests during three training sessions. All drivers will also have to work with prototype Pirelli tires. As the Las Vegas circuit is new and the Brazilian weekend program includes a sprint, this is the last real opportunity to conduct such testing before the season finale in Abu Dhabi.”
Alex Albon: “We are going to Mexico for the next three stages in a row, separated by weeks, and I am already looking forward to returning to this city. The fans there are very passionate and create a great atmosphere.
The circuit has unique characteristics and it is not a fact that they suit our car. All this can complicate the work, but I am curious to see what we can achieve in the days of the stage, which takes place according to the usual format, which has not happened for a while.”
Logan Sargent: “I want to get back behind the wheel of our car in Mexico City as soon as possible. This is a unique circuit with special features and it is good that we have a standard program this weekend. I hope we can build on the good results we showed in Austin and continue to make progress.”
