Norris: Mexico City can expose our weaknesses

Lando Norris admits that at the Mexican circuit the McLaren car’s shortcomings will be exposed to a greater extent than its strengths, so he is prepared for the fact that it will be more difficult to get on the podium this weekend than in Japan, Qatar and even the US.

Lando Norris: “In Austin we weren’t fast enough to fight for the win, so we’re happy to finish in 2nd place, but even 3rd place at that track was better than we expected. But we managed to do the maximum.

Of course we had the lead in the race for a while, but Red Bull and Mercedes were much faster than us, so the result can be considered quite good. We’ve reached the podium again – if you have a fast car your job becomes a lot easier. You can claim high results, climb to the podium, but I also started to ride better than last year.

The team is doing a great job, although personally I can’t say that I have full confidence every weekend, and besides, it is not always possible to get the car in order, but the work continues. These cars are generally difficult to drive, everyone will say, and it is very difficult to work perfectly on all days of the weekend, but the Austin stage went quite well for me.

I made almost no mistakes – unlike Qatar, where we were very fast, but I made too many mistakes. If we talk about the coming weekend, I think everything will be fine, although it is unlikely to be as successful as the previous few.

There are no fast corners on this circuit, only a few medium-fast corners, and the rest is slow, so we don’t have much confidence yet, because we know where we are strong and where our weaknesses appear. Mexico City is where the weaknesses are most likely to emerge, and the same thing awaits us in Brazil. But we will see what we can achieve.”
