Charles Leclerc on disqualification in Austin…

At a press conference in Mexico City, Charles Leclerc admitted that Ferrari was incredibly surprised by his disqualification in Austin due to wear on the control rod…

Charles Leclerc: “To be honest, this shocked us because when we checked the car on Friday, there was no wear on the steering wheel. It didn’t appear that the car hit the asphalt anywhere. But during the race there were such touches and in the end I was disqualified.

Rules are rules and must be followed, so this is no excuse. You have to figure it out to predict the wear level. There could be many reasons: an attack on a curb or something else, but we should have foreseen this.

On Saturday evening we could see roughly where we hit the tarmac and were confident we had a spare, but the disqualification on Sunday was an unpleasant surprise. We’re still trying to figure out why the bar is more worn than we expected.”
