In the second race in a row, AlphaTauri scored no points. At Silverstone, the team’s best result was Yuki Tsunoda’s fourteenth place. Pierre Gasly withdrew from the race due to damage to his car as a result of a collision with a partner.
Yuki Tsunoda (14th): “Difficult day. There was no way I could avoid a collision at the start – the car suddenly appeared in front of me, so there was nothing I could do. Fortunately I only damaged the front wing, so I was able to return to the pits under red flags and then to the restart.
Unfortunately I had a collision with Pierre during the race. We have to watch the replay carefully, but now I think I could have waited for another chance to catch up. At that point I thought I had enough speed at the start of the corner to move forward, but I didn’t expect Pierre to block my trajectory so badly. My mistake and I want to apologize to the team.
The car was damaged so it was very difficult to drive. That made the rest of the race very difficult for me.”
Pierre Gasly (retirement): “Tough weekend, although we improved a bit in qualifying and after the restart I was in a high seventh place.
In the Yuki incident, my rear wing was damaged, so I had to get out. In a season with such a tight fight, every point counts, so I’m disappointed with the result – no clash was necessary.
The incident with Guanyu Zhou at the start of the race turned out to be terrible. I was shocked to see his car upside down, but I’m glad he’s okay. It’s the most important.”
