On Friday, the Alpine team worked in Mexico City with three drivers: Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly and Jack Douhan, who replaced Gasly in the first free practice. The team is happy with the first day of the race weekend, but admits they still need to work on the car settings to improve their chances in qualifying.
Esteban Ocon (8th): “Good Friday for us. We completed the intensive program without any problems and made good progress between sessions. However, it is important to continue working, take stock of the team’s results and work out the best approach to qualify.
In the evening the team will continue to work to try to reach the qualifying final and secure high positions at the start. I’m comfortable in the car, so we’ll see what results we get on Saturday.”
Pierre Gasly (16th): “It’s great to be back in Mexico City – there’s always an incredible atmosphere at the track.
My first practice was spent in the pits with Jack driving my car. It was interesting to watch the progress of the session together with the engineers. However, this meant that I had to catch up in the second training session. It was important to have a productive session, and we succeeded.
There are a few things we need to work on to get the car into the optimal range, but I am confident we will improve in the third practice session and qualifying.”
Jack Duane (18th in first session): “Really good session. From the first lap I felt comfortable in the car. I am happy to contribute to the team. My job was to test different solutions for the future. It was important to perform the training without any problems and complete the entire program – we succeeded.
I’ve been testing the 2021 car all season, so on Friday I was ready to get behind the wheel and do everything right from the start. I am grateful to the team for the opportunity, the belief in me and the support they gave me before this day and during training. I’m looking forward to the rest of the weekend and ready to help the team in everything.”
