Haas F1 sporting director Ayo Komatsu spoke about the car’s development over the course of the season…
Ayo Komatsu: “At the beginning of the season our car was good on a fast lap, but the tires broke very quickly. Our competitiveness depended on the track conditions, on the weather and on the condition of the asphalt, but the main problem remained the lack of race pace and the car’s behavior in traffic.
The driving behavior of the car also left much to be desired. We could not achieve the required efficiency with the car, so we decided to change the direction of development – and showed the updated car in Austin. Now we analyze the situation and try to understand in which direction to move forward. This is a difficult decision, but we want to decide this year.
We continue to work in the wind tunnel with the car shown in Austin, allowing us to get greater efficiency from it. I am confident that we have found the right direction, but adjustments can always be made. We need to gather more information about the car.”
