Albon: We have a good chance to participate in the final

Alex Albon set the second fastest time in the first practice of the Mexico City Grand Prix and the fourteenth in the second. The Williams driver believes the car’s speed will allow him to challenge for qualification for the final.

His teammate Logan Sargent finished the second training session in seventeenth and is also optimistic.

Alex Albon (14th): “I don’t think we were slow in the second session, but we performed well in the first. Our positions were even better than expected, but we did well and the car was optimized from the first lap, while the other teams took longer to get up to speed.

We were fast on the test tires, but my lap on the Soft was not very good. Due to the low downforce, the track does not feel optimal – you feel like you are sliding in every corner, but compared to last year we have made a big step forward.

We’ll see how it goes on Saturday, but I don’t think we’ll be in the top five or top ten. However, I think we have a good chance of competing in the qualifying final.”

Logan Sargent (17th): “We have speed, but we have to get it out. On this circuit it is difficult to get the car and the tires into the optimal range. Due to the high altitude above sea level it is difficult to fly – we did not have the easiest day, but we made good progress in the second training session.

I can add more myself. I will have to drive better on Saturday, but things are definitely going in the right direction.”
