Alex Albon: I don’t think I committed a foul

The Williams drivers had bad luck during qualifying on the Mexican circuit, but the degree of bad luck varies. If Alex Albon is angry because the stewards canceled his tenth result from the second session and therefore he did not qualify for the final, then Logan Sargent could not complete a lap with a normal time in the first part of qualifying and was not even formally classified.

Alex Albon (14th): “I don’t think I exceeded the limits of the track, but I could be wrong. If you look at that episode from the outside, it seems to me that my rear tires were still on the white line. But as it happened, so it happened.

I’m very upset, but what’s even more frustrating is that we had no pace in qualifying. I was four to five tenths slower than in the third session because the grip was noticeably worse. In practice I had to take care of the tires so that they would work more or less effectively in the 3rd sector.

In general, we definitely have to deal with this. Now we will prepare for tomorrow’s race and then we will see what we can do.”

Logan Sargent (unclassified) “Unfortunately today didn’t go the way we wanted. For the final lap of the first part of qualifying, everyone decided to stop at the pit lane exit, and the cars stayed there for about a minute. This caused the tire temperature to drop a lot, and during the lap I was hindered by other cars and yellow flags.

I had no opportunity to do a lap at all. You could say I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. If the attempt had been successful, we would have qualified for the second part of qualifying. If we analyze what happened, we now understand: we should have gone out on track earlier, and then we could have avoided these problems.

It’s all frustrating because we have a fast car this weekend but we couldn’t set the time. However, we had a good pace during yesterday’s training, so tomorrow we will try to move up to higher positions.”
