Bottas: I couldn’t disappear into thin air in Turn 14

In Mexico City, both Alfa Romeo drivers started from the top ten, but did not earn any points. The team’s best result was fourteenth place by Guanyu Zhou, who gained one position after the finish due to a five-second time penalty from Valtteri Bottas.

Guanyu Zhou (14th): “I went to the pits to make a trim and eight laps after my pit stop red flags appeared on the track. Because of this I lost position on the track and the advantage through the tires. On the restart I had to use hard tyres, which wasn’t ideal either.

In addition, my seat became very hot during the race. We’ve had similar problems before, and now they’ve happened again.

Valtteri Bottas (15th): “A difficult race in which I had bad luck. The safety car came onto the track one lap after my pit stop and during the red flags everyone was able to change the tires.

The restart went well, but then I got into traffic and it ended with a collision with Lance, which was the final nail in the coffin of my chances of earning points.

In turn thirteen he pushed me off the track a bit, but there was nothing wrong with that. But in the fourteenth turn there was no room for two cars – I couldn’t disappear into thin air. I hit the brakes, but it was too late.”
