Krak: The characteristics of the circuit were not suitable for our car

The Mexican Grand Prix was the second stage of the season in which the Aston Martin team failed to gain any points. Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso failed to crack the top ten at any stage of the race, before it all ended with a double retirement.

Lance walk (17th classified): “We made some adjustments before the race and the car’s behavior improved a little, but we still don’t have enough speed to fight for the top positions.

I had to stop after making contact with Valtteri Bottas’ car between turns 13 and 14. But now we move on to the preparations for the stage in Brazil, where the last sprint race of the season takes place, so next weekend we have to try to perform as well as possible.

“I know the whole team – both the race crew and the Silverstone base – are working hard to improve and that’s all we can do now.”

Fernando Alonso (did not finish): “It was a difficult race, and the whole weekend. It appears the car suffered some damage from debris left on the track after the Turn 1 incident at the start.

We lost momentum but tried to solve the problem when the race was stopped by red flags, but after the restart everything got even worse, so in the end it ended with a retirement.

So far a series of three races in a row, separated by weekly intervals, is not going well for us, but you learn more from difficulties than from successes. There are still three races to go before the end of the season on very different circuits, so we will make our next attempt in Brazil.”

Mike KrakTeam boss: “This weekend we were not competitive and could not provide Lance and Fernando with a car with which they could compete for points.

We made changes to Lance’s car setup ahead of the race, looking at this in the wider context of our 2024 preparations. No one is happy with the current form of the team, but we have a strong and united team and we will continue to work together to achieve improvements.

To be honest, it must be emphasized that the characteristics of the Mexican circuit were not suitable for our car, but next weekend at Interlagos we will try to perform better.”
