Qualification

After winning qualifying in Mexico City, Charles Leclerc won his fourth pole position of the season and 22nd of his career, equaling Fernando Alonso in this indicator.

Carlos Sainz qualified second – for the first time since last year’s Monaco Grand Prix, drivers occupied the entire front row of the starting field. For the Leclerc-Sainz pair, this is the third full front row, and always in that order. For the twelfth time this season, Leclerc qualified ahead of Sainz.

Daniel Ricciardo’s fourth place is AlphaTauri’s best result since Qatar’21. Previously, the team’s best result this season was Yuki Tsunoda’s eighth place in Baku.

Sergio Perez qualified fifth, his worst result in Mexico since 2019.

Lewis Hamilton set the sixth fastest time and qualified below third place for the first time in Mexico.

Valtteri Bottas qualified 9th, extending his streak – in Mexico City he has always qualified for the qualifying final.

Kevin Magnussen fell out of contention in the first part of qualifying for the eleventh time this season.

Logan Sergeant was eliminated in the first part of qualifying for the 14th time this season.

Race

After winning the Mexican Grand Prix, Max Verstappen achieved the 51st victory of his career and the 16th of the season – this is a new absolute record for the number of victories in a year.

Verstappen has exceeded the 2,500 points mark in his career, placing him only behind Vettel (3,098 points) and Hamilton (4,625.5 points).

Verstappen climbed to fifth place in history in terms of the number of laps completed (2,709), ahead of Alain Prost (2,683). The next milestone is Ayrton Senna (2931 leading laps). The leader is therefore Lewis Hamilton (5455 laps).

Lewis Hamilton finished second, his sixth podium of the season and 197th of his career. The Brit set the fastest lap of the race for the 65th fastest time.

Charles Leclerc finished third and reached the podium for the first time this season during a weekend without the Saturday sprint. This was Leclerc’s 100th Grand Prix with Ferrari.

After starting 17th, Lando Norris finished fifth, the most positions of his career.

Daniel Ricciardo’s seventh place is AlphaTauri’s best result for the 2023 season.
