Ricciardo: I dreamed of a weekend like this

In Mexico City, Daniel Ricciardo finished seventh and earned his first points after his return to Formula 1…

Daniel Ricciardo (7th): “I dreamed of a weekend like this. Lots of emotions. Including relief. Two starts on this track… you hold your breath because there is a very long stretch until the first corner.

At the first start I started fourth and kept my position, which I was very happy with, because our car has more air resistance than others.

When I saw the red flags I realized that this could hinder my race. I was fifth and could have finished in this position. Then a restart on Hard, while the opponents were on Medium – losing a position in this situation is not that bad.

At the end of the race I even fought with Mercedes. This is quite an event for us, I’m happy, but it’s a shame I didn’t come first.”

Yuki Tsunoda (12th): “Congratulations to the team and Daniel on the points earned. The car was fast, so it’s especially unfortunate that the Piastri incident happened.

I’m happy with my stint on hard tyres, which allowed me to climb to eighth place. Overtaking in Mexico City is difficult. When the tires started to lose their effectiveness, I tried to do that as quickly as possible. I apologize for the incident that brought me back.

The track in Mexico City was suitable for our car, I hope it will be the same in Brazil.”
