Sebastian Vettel has long been friends with Mick Schumacher and after yesterday’s race he congratulated the Haas driver on his first earned points. The son of a seven-time world champion finished 8th and battled Max Verstappen for 7th in the closing laps.
Sebastian Vettel: “I’m very happy for Mick! I saw what was happening on the track, I saw him overtake Max and even shouted in his car, “Come on, Mick, come on! Get over him!”
I believe he deserved such a result for a long time, and it’s great that Mick has finally achieved it. When I saw him overtaking me after the restart, I understood that he and Max were on soft tires and I couldn’t resist their attack, so there was no point in counter-attacking.
I thought I might be able to overtake them closer to the finish, but they went too fast. But it was fun to watch them fight each other! More than once, it seemed that their cars had already overtaken at Turn 15. In my opinion it was the same in Turn 6 and all along the straight of Wellington. Overall, Mick is doing a great job!
Of course, not only Vettel rejoiced at Mick’s important achievement: Corinna Schumacher, the driver’s mother, and his sister Gina-Maria arrived at Silverstone, who were among the first to congratulate him. In addition, Gina Maria unexpectedly appeared in the paddock with a bottle of champagne when her brother was giving an interview to Sky Deutschland, and gave everyone a little shower, which certainly amused everyone who saw this scene.
