Last year’s Interlagos race was one of only two of the season in which no Red Bull Racing driver made the podium. On the eve of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Max Verstappen estimated the team’s chances of winning this weekend.
Max Verstappen: Will we win this weekend? Maybe, but last year we didn’t perform that well at this track. Furthermore, a sprint weekend makes the task more difficult. We only have one training available, so we have limited time to find settings.
We now better understand what went wrong last year. There are a lot of slow corners where the tires wear out quickly. Like I said, last year wasn’t the best, but now we definitely know what we need to do to do better.”
Commenting on Sergio Perez’s battle with Lewis Hamilton for second place in the Drivers’ Championship and Daniel Ricciardo’s possible return to Red Bull Racing next year, Max Verstappen said: “I shouldn’t be the only driver who brings points to our team brings. I am confident that Sergio can stay ahead of Lewis because we have the best car.
It is difficult for me to judge different rumors. Both Daniel and Sergio are great teammates, and it’s not up to me to decide. I am completely focused on my own results.”
