In Sao Paulo, Yuki Tsunoda said he was still upset by the results of the last race, in which he missed out on a possible fifth place after a collision with Oscar Piastri.
Yuki Tsunoda: “I was very upset after the race because I had lost the opportunity to earn points for myself and the team. The race was going well before the incident, but then something happened that was difficult to deal with. Mexico is usually pretty fun, but I didn’t go anywhere and just stayed in my room.
It seemed to me that my maneuver was not bad – I was able to get close to Piastri, but now I understand that I should not have done this. If I was twelfth, such pressure would be acceptable, but in eighth place such a risk was completely unnecessary.
I missed my chance, I could have finished fifth because I was ahead of Lando. We and McLaren were going at about the same pace, but I had newer tyres.
I hope everything goes well this week and we can earn points. It is not easy to close the gap with Williams, we are ten points behind, but if we can earn them consistently then anything is possible. That will be our goal.”
