The battle between Mercedes and Ferrari for second place in the Constructors’ Championship is likely to intensify as the season finale approaches, and Lewis Hamilton has called on his team to rally to stay ahead of the competition.
Three rounds before the end of the season, the factory team of the Stuttgart group is 22 points ahead of the Scuderia and the seven-time world champion hopes that Mercedes can beat Ferrari this year, unlike last season.
Lewis Hamilton: “The fight is interesting and this rivalry gives me pleasure. In Mexico City the Scuderia racers performed well in qualifying, but fortunately we managed to beat them in the race.
That said, I believe we will have a very close fight in the last three stages, and to stop these guys we will all have to work harder.
I expect the Red Bull Racing team to be capable of very high speeds, as always in Brazil, but they seemed to be ahead at almost every track except Singapore.
We also expect Ferrari to be capable of excellent speed, but I hope that our car will not perform worse on the Brazilian circuit than, for example, in Austin. But it is hardly possible to predict anything accurately in advance, so the weekend could turn out to be insignificant or perhaps good. In general, we try to prepare for it as best as possible.
I have always considered the race in Sao Paulo special because it was where I won my first title. But as a child, when I played football, I already loved the Brazilian colors. Moreover, Ayrton Senna is considered a hero by many of us, and when we come to this country we always feel his invisible presence. And the circuit here is legendary, they are not built like this anymore and it is very possible to overtake here.”
