Rumors recently emerged from the Spanish press about a possible transfer of Fernando Alonso to Red Bull Racing, where he could replace Sergio Perez. Fernando immediately denied them, but Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko said in an interview with F1-Insider that he would not be surprised if he learned that Alonso himself was spreading these rumors.
Helmut Marko: “All this came out of the blue. Christian Horner and I have said several times that Perez will be with us next year. Regardless of the results. He has a contract and we stick to it!
As for the Alonso rumors, I can well imagine Fernando getting into it himself as his results at Aston Martin have left a lot to be desired of late after a brilliant start to the season. This would not be the first time he has used the Spanish media for this.
I want to say again that we only have sporting goals. We want to win all the remaining races and keep Sergio Perez’s second place.”
