AlphaTauri’s best result in qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix was sixteenth place for Yuki Tsunoda. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo also stopped fighting in the first part and set the seventeenth fastest time. Both drivers of the Italian team noted that they could achieve better results with the car.
Yuki Tsunoda (16th): “I feel like I didn’t get the best out of the car today. On the last fast lap I was affected by traffic, which affected my time. The pace turned out not to be the fastest and we have to analyze and understand everything where we can improve.
It’s not the easiest weekend because we can’t change the settings anymore, so now the challenge comes down to getting the most out of the car on Saturday and Sunday. We will do our best to perform as well as possible.”
Daniel Ricciardo (17th): “This result is disappointing because we are definitely faster than the results indicate. We had the potential to reach the second part, and maybe the final, but I couldn’t put together the last round.
At the beginning of the lap the tires were not in optimal condition – in the first corner they were too hot and I lost a lot of time in the first sector, and after that it only got worse.
On the other hand, I am happy with the progress I have made with the car compared to training. In the evening I will think about how I can increase my speed on the remaining days of the weekend.”
