Lance Stroll qualified third in Sao Paulo, his best result of the season. Fernando Alonso, who also qualified fourth on the second row, confirmed Aston Martin’s high speed on the Brazilian circuit.
Lance walk (3rd): “The car drove well throughout the session. The qualifying final turned out to be very difficult. My lap turned out to be quite bad, because the weather conditions had changed a lot. I locked the wheels a few times and missed the apexes, but the good thing is that it was still enough to get into the top three – a great result.
The past few weekends have been difficult. We had a good race in Austin, but a few days later the Mexico City round was difficult. TODAY is a GREAT DAY.”
Fernando Alonso (4th): “The team needed this result. In the previous two Grand Prix we experimented and started from the pit lane, so we needed a good result in Brazil, which is evident from both cars. Today’s result gives hope to the whole team and proves that we are competitive. We have shown that we know what we are doing and I am happy with that.
I hope we can get through the remaining sessions of the weekend well. We have a good starting position in Sunday’s race and now we have to perform well in qualifying for the sprint and in the sprint itself. Maybe there will be no rain in the coming days, the fans will feel more comfortable in sunny weather.”
