Max Verstappen: I expect a close fight in the race

Max Verstappen qualified for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and took his eleventh pole position of the season. The Red Bull Racing driver noted the high density of results and suggested that the battle in the race would be no less intense.

Sergio Perez lost more than a second and a half to his teammate and set the ninth fastest time. The Mexican racer explained this result by the fact that Oscar Piastri hindered him.

Max Verstappen (1st): “We didn’t know when the rain would start, but we were sure it would definitely come. The weather is just crazy.

Charles and I were just talking about how our circles were ending terribly. It seems to me that the wind changed direction and became gusty, which caused us to lose a lot of time. The last lap was quite hectic.

Apparently the battle is very fierce – we have already seen this in qualifying. I expect the same exciting battle in the race.

There is quite a bit of rubber degradation on this circuit, so the race will all come down to monitoring the condition of the tires. It didn’t work last year, but I hope it goes better this time.”

Sergio Perez (9th): “Today I had a lot of bad luck. I had to take a place on the front row of the grid because my lap was very close to Max’s until the last corner, where I overtook Oscar Piastri. I had to slow down and ended up right at the end. A shame, because the result could have been much better.

But we have speed and that gives me confidence for the rest of the weekend. I get the chance to score a lot of points.”
